FMG Fund Managers

FMG Fund Managers was founded in 1989 and has been selecting leading money (fund) managers for many years from their a research centre in North America (Connecticut). They manage some US $ 230 million in a variety of specialised Funds.

Over the years, FMG has specialised in being innovative in Fund Management and have created a variety of Hedge Funds aimed at the Retail and Institutional Sector.

For example, they were one of the first Fund Management companies to bring a Fund of Hedge Funds specialising in the Bio-Medical sector (covering: Bio-Tech, Medical Services/Devices and Pharmaceutical Companies by using 9 independent managers). See below the FMG-Diversified Bio-Med.

Then on 1st January 2002, they launched a Global Hedge Fund, which had in the past was originally a (long only) Fund, but FMG were proactive and in order to preserve the underlying capital created a Global Hedge Fund. For the first 8 months of 2002, the Fund is up some 7% (net) after costs. The Fund is focused 30% USA, 30 % Europe and 40% Global Multi Managers.

Then in turn FMG were one of the earlier Fund Managers to launch a Russian (Long Only) Fund covering Russia and CIS countries only.

Investment Philosophy

Multi-Manager Approach

• By combining the skills of multiple managers, a portfolio can be diversified between complementary investment strategies, geographical areas and industry sectors. In this way, the risk is spread and effectively reduced.

Hedge Fund Approach

• Hedge funds are perceived by some as high risk investments but in reality, most equity hedge funds are less volatile than conventional long-only equity funds. In rising markets, hedge funds tend to under-perform long-only funds as they reduce risk.
• In falling markets and volatile markets hedge funds tend to out-perform long-only funds. The hedge funds we use aim to generate profits from short-selling overvalues equities and buying under-values equities.
• We select our managers to minimize the use of leverage and derivatives in our products.
